Observations 3
A month into the competition and I decided it’s time to recheck the other search engines aswell, to see how the search results differ now that it’s all more or less stable in Google.
Clifinar and Google
This time, 30 days into the competition, the results in Google are, more or less, stable with the top 5 results being the same for the past 2 weeks or so. There are small changes between the top 5 but overall the first 5 results are dominated by the same sites.
Clifinar and Yahoo
Yahoo’s results are quite different from Google’s with the exception of the first result which is the same in both search engines. The 10th result however seemed completley irrelevant with the search term used. As observed before in earlier clifinar observations, Yahoo is placing a higher emphasys on social media and web 2.0 sites such as Dig listings (which are the 2nd and 3rd result).
Clifinar and MSN
Previously I wrote:
I can’t understand why the Live results look like they do. The new search engine that replaced MSN should have been better at indexing relevant content, however I couldn’t see that it did so with any degree of success. Not over the other 2 big search engines any way.
Over all, Out of the 3 search engines mentioned Google had the best mix of articles, blogs and social media sites with Yahoo following close behind. Live…well, like I said…sorry…
Ok, so I was obviously dissapointed by the results, however, I must say that today MSN redeemed itself in my eyes with the latest search results from Live.
Wright now, Live has a perfect combination of results from blogs and from social sites, all of them relevant with the last ones slightly less then the others.
Over all, I think that MSN Live has passed Yahoo in relevance of results with Google still leading the way.
